Wow – it’s hard to believe that this blog has already been live for a month! It feels like just yesterday that I was sitting around making 2011 New Year’s Resolutions, and here we are, already 1/12th of the way done with the year.
(I apologize – if you haven’t noticed, I’m occasionally prone to nostalgic ramblings. I’ll try to keep them to a minimum from here on out… 🙂 )
I just wanted to take a second to recap what’s been going well on the site (in my opinion, at least), what I plan to improve on and what’s coming up in the future.
My First Case Study!
One of the biggest things I want to do with this site is to try out new affiliate marketing tools and techniques in real-time, so that you can see what works and what doesn’t, as well as how to apply this kind of testing to your own web business.
So I’m excited to be on track with this. My first case study (a test of the one-way backlinking service BuildMyRank) launched on January 15th, and I’m now about three weeks into it. I’m planning to continue this case study for another few weeks and look forward to reporting my end results to you.
This site is currently running on the ElegantThemes “Bold” theme, and I made some major modifications to how I utilize the theme mid-way through the month. Although I’m not entirely satisfied with it yet, I love the ability to feature specific posts and the expanded footer section that I’m running now.
Mix of Content
I read a lot of business blogs, but I find that most of them focus on either business development strategy or concrete “how to” guides – both of which are important for beginning affiliate marketers. One of my goals is to combine both of these elements on this site, in order to create more of a “one-stop shopping” site for people who are just getting started online. So far, I think I’ve achieved this, but if there’s something you’d rather see more of, let me know in the comments!
The following are the posts that have received the most comments so far:
So what’s coming up next for Common Sense Marketing?
Well, in the next month, I want to focus on adding more educational resources to the site, beyond the info in my posts. This might take the form of additional free reports or info for email subscribers – I’m not sure yet what shape these will take or what specific info they’ll cover. If there’s anything in particular that you want to learn more about, leave me a note in the comments!
I’m also guilty of not being as active on social media sites as I should be. Even though I’m an internet business owner, I’m weirdly slow about adapting to new technology, and I’m definitely not using these tools to their full advantage. Twitter, in particular, is one I want to focus on next month, so I look forward to connecting with you there!
Finally, I’m in the beginning stages of planning the next case study, since my current one will be finishing up soon. And honestly – let me tell you – I am so excited about this one 🙂 There’s going to be an opportunity for you to get involved beyond just reading my results, so keep an eye out for the big announcement in a few weeks!
As always, I love to hear from you 🙂 If you have any feedback on the blog so far or ideas for what you’d like to see more of, leave me a message below!
