Sarah Russell – 3/26 CMC Update

Watch my weekly update here:

Like I said in the video, I don’t have a ton of stuff to update you on this week, since everything’s mostly been proceeding on autopilot for me.

I did decide to outsource the content creation for my site, since I’ve been a bit pressed for time lately with everything that’s been going on here and with my other niche sites.  Fortunately, I work with a fantastic writer who does a lot of my niche content creation and I think she did a great job with the content you’ll be seeing on this site.

So far, I have six articles posted and four more loaded into WordPress, ready to be auto-populated over the next two weeks.  Right now, I’m adding general content to form an informative base, since I’m planning to grow this site much larger over time.  I want visitors within the niche to feel like my site is a reputable information resource, so I’m putting some time into adding basic content that isn’t overtly monetized (ie – things like product reviews, articles that tell readers to take some specific action).

Considering how I’m approaching content right now, it makes sense that there isn’t a ton of monetization on the site.  I haven’t added much besides the Amazon Affiliates search box in the sidebar.  I have a lot of ideas on how to monetize my content down the road, but as I said earlier, I also think it’s important to have that solid base of non-monetized, general content for visitors within the niche.

Finally, I have made a few changes to the site – the color of the top page navigation bar and the logo.  I like them so far, but I don’t think I’m done with the design updates yet.  Stay tuned for next week!

  1. […] Sarah Russell – Most of my work this week has been done on autopilot.  Check out my most recent video update to find out why I’ve decided to avoid overtly monetizing my base content. […]

You’ve made it clear that your going for a more “long haul” approach (i.e. slow to monetize until content/rep is firmly established) with this site.

Is this how you approach your other niche sites?

Hi Archie – Thanks for stopping by!

Yes, my approach is different when I’m first starting out with a new niche. Typically, if it’s a niche I haven’t worked with before, I’ll start with a much smaller site, using a much more focused template and monetization strategy.

If I see results, I’ll try to expand – or “scale up” – the site and make it larger. If not, I abandon it and move on to the next niche. No reason to put a lot of time and effort into creating content for a site that isn’t going to make any money.

      Hope this helps!
